Curt Cash uses raw audio dialog, music, and special effects to create ads, TV spots, movie trailers, and other streaming media. He works for a major finishing house where every project must be assembled, mixed, and mastered to perfection—and on time. Curt downloads, edits, and uploads 10-30 gigabyte files all day via VPN; not surprisingly, Internet performance plays a significant role. With Island, Curt has seen download speeds enhanced by nearly 3x. He isolates his work setup with a Fortinet firewall on one port and uses separate ports for personal devices. Curt reports, “The app’s GUI is clean and simple, yet thorough with comprehensive analytics. I was sold from day one—I spend far less time staring at progress bars, which is really all I need to say.”

With 500+ 5-star reviews, owner Gary Borg and Shellback Plumbing and Drain prides itself on honesty, integrity, and high-quality plumbing services to the LA area. Because everything that affects the business runs through the Internet--all phone calls, scheduling, dispatching of technicians, and record-keeping—downtime or disruption of service simply cannot be tolerated. To meet this high bar, they installed the Island router with two Internet connections: Spectrum Business as the primary, and AT&T Fiber as backup. Equally important to Island’s enterprise-grade reliability was its superior failover technology.

While the message content is specific to faith, communicating with congregations in today’s large houses of worship shares the same cutting-edge technology found in live theater and performance venues throughout North America, including large video screens, sophisticated lighting options and extensive audio equipment. Dan Nagle set up the system for the Word of His Power Church as a dedicated, local network with wired devices; Wi-Fi is used mainly for the sound system controllers. Island fulfills the church’s requirements for reliability, flexibility for multiple VLANs, the security to lock the system down, and for dual-WAN redundancy.

Mobile Tech Solutions is a major AV installer in Florida. Roughly ten years ago, they started seeing big changes on the networking side of home installs, citing an evolution in today’s market: “90% of clients realize that networking is as important as electricity.” One such client is Dr. Santo BiFulco out of Tampa, FL, who equips his office and two homes with Island. Initially outfitted with a well-known high-end router manufacturer, Dr. BiFulco started to notice frequent router failures and Internet drops—exacerbated by poor support. He needed “beefy, bullet-proof” routers and Island has delivered—every issue he had was resolved within 48 hours, with added benefits of enhanced performance, default security filtering and a simplified user experience. The doctor’s main home previously experienced frequent outages, but Island’s dual-WAN “switches over in a couple of seconds—it’s now seamless.” Equally important to the features above, Dr. BiFulco is a passionate music lover with 30 Sonos devices located throughout his property. Island easily handles the device load, and he’ll soon begin using its integrated VPN to connect his office to both homes.

Litigation specialists SA Legal Solutions have over 200 jury trials and 15 years of experience leveraging the efficacy of video testimony as powerful evidence for their legal clients. After recording hours of witness depositions in the field, the subsequent challenge is getting data, ~10GB per deposition, back to the office securely. The previous VPN solution “was slow and unreliable.” On a friend’s advice, they switched to an Island router with built-in WireGuard VPN at both home and office. Ten users connect remotely every day using the WireGuard client. Founder Blake Boyd notes, “Many times we need to playback video last minute using Island. The reliability of the VPN is paramount; we didn’t realize how slow our previous hardware was until we converted to Island. Our speed and uptime have improved drastically.”

Finck Cigars has been a mainstay in San Antonio commerce for over 130 years. Owned and operated by generations of the Finck family, the business offers fine cigars sourced worldwide, plus its own Travis Club label made locally. Planning its fourth retail location caused a rethink of the router driving each store. “The biggest deciding factor,” explained Steven Finck, “was Island’s ability to support dual-WAN for backup Internet so we’re always up. And the easy IP reservation feature keeps PoS terminals communicating smoothly.” The built-in VPN gives him quick access to store data from any location, including his home using the VPN client. As for performance, credit card transactions are “almost instant.” Technically curious, Steven adds “the ease of use is incredible; geek mode, with all that info at your fingertips, has given me a better understanding of networking—I’ve become the junior IT person.”
